Mark Willis for RNC Chair

MWillisWe asked Mark Willis, Maine’s Republican National Committeeman to step up and challenge Reince Priebus during the January 25th RNC Officers Election during their Winter Meeting in Charolotte, NC. (Jan. 23rd – Jan.26th).

Mark replied to us saying:

“Let me begin by saying that I am honored to find my name on the short list as a potential candidate next to two great statesmen, Congressman Ron Paul and Senator Jim DeMint. As we all know, these two men have fought the good fight for years on Capitol Hill – lower taxes, less spending, and an overall decentralized Federal Government that would actually abide by the Constitution. Sadly, they seem to be two outgoing voices in the wilderness of an out of control Federal Government with few replacements on the horizon. Men perhaps of a different age – principled leaders are hard to come by these days.

Therefore, after much deliberation and discussion with my wife Violet, I let Bryan know that due to the fact that no one has stepped up to the plate, I would in fact run for Chairman of the RNC, provided I would receive, in writing, the support of at least 2 RNC members in 3 states (minimum of 6 persons) in order to satisfy the RNC nomination requirements. The election takes place on Friday, January 25th, 2013 in Charlotte, North Carolina.”

Since that time we have been working hard to do just that! We have already helped to secure a National RLC Endorsement of Mark Willis’s candidacy and have pushed this story onto the National radar!( Visit our Media Page for full coverage! )

Mark has already done interviews with Nationally Syndicated talk show host Jerry DoyleAward winning news journalist at Ben Swann and a number of morning radio interviews. The message is getting out and some of the responses are coming in from the hard work that is being done on the ground.

At this time we currently have 2 states that have been willing to stand up and nominate Mark Willis for RNC Chair. Maine and Nevada.

From Diana Orrock – Nevada Republican National Committeewoman:

“James and I will be providing letters of support for Mark Willis’ nomination.”

From James Smack – Nevada Republican National Committeeman:

“I have offered to give a nominating speech if required, told Mark personally this morning.”

This means 2 more RNC members from 1 more state is needed to satisfy the nomination requirements. Have you reached out to your states RNC members yet? If you are not sure who they are in your state here is a great starting point: http://www.gop.com/members/

The RNC Election of Officers takes place Jan. 25th from 11-6pm (tentative).

We must have the support of 3 states with at least 2 RNC members (State Chair, National Committeeman/woman) written support in order to satisfy the nomination requirements.

That is why we at www.StepDownNow.com are asking you to contact your states RNC members and ask them to look into Mark Willis and what he brings to the table for the future of the Republican Party.

Feel free to use any or all of the following letter in reaching out to your RNC representatives:

Dear RNC Members,

As you might know by now, Mr. Mark Willis, National Committeeman from the great state of Maine has been contacted by GOP members from across the nation, congratulating and supporting him on his decision to challenge Mr. Reince Priebus for the Chairmanship of the Republican Party.

Mr. Willis has let the GOP rank and file as well as grassroots supporters know that he will in fact challenge Mr. Priebus if he is able to secure, in writing, the support of at least 2 RNC members from 3 states. At this point in time, Maine and Nevada have thrown their support to Mr. Willis and the quest for a third state continues.

We respectfully ask that you take a moment and consider supporting Mr. Willis as we believe he provides a clear, distinct contrast to the management philosophy and style of Mr. Priebus. Mr. Willis is an advocate of a very de-centralized RNC, believing that “States know best” when it comes to their own primaries, caucuses and elections in general. He also believes that the current RNC rules were adopted illegally in Tampa and therefore need to be repealed at the Winter 2013 meeting.

Mr. Willis understands that balancing the RNC checkbook and fundraising are key elements of political organization. However, Mr. Willis has said on more than one occasion that he believes no amount of money in the world can solve the problems we face as a party. Mr. Willis believes we must look deep inside ourselves and ask the following question: are we truly the party of liberty, equality, and favoritism for none? If so, then let’s start acting like it in an inclusive manner and embrace all corners of the party, leaving no one behind. For failure to do so, in Mr. Willis’s own words, “will ensure our impending demise”.

and,

Mark Willis’s Bio:

Maine’s Republican National Committeeman Mark Willis is a uniquely qualified person to re-unify and lead the Republican National Committee.

He is, among other things, on the Dennysville Maine School Board and is the GOP Town Chair as well as having been a national delegate to the 2012 GOP Convention in Tampa.

Mr. Willis holds a Doctor of Law degree from George Mason School of Law, a Masters Degree in Information Systems and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations. He is able to converse in Spanish, French and German.

He internalized the concepts of conservatism and liberty and as well as loyalty, leadership, and duty during his years in the military, having served on active duty in the U.S. Army as a counterintelligence agent in both Haiti and Bosnia. He was a senior software engineer at the US Army Security and Intelligence Command (INSCOM), where he was an information technology liaison between INSCOM and the National Security Agency (NSA) and is currently an Applications Security Manager for a Fortune 100 Company.

Mark Willis is a strong proponent of restoring personal and economic liberty and freedom. He also advocates a limited federal government, and to that end, elimination of the TSA, the Departments of Education and Interior as well as the Environmental Protection Agency at the federal end and the Internal Revenue Service.

He believes that balancing the federal budget and then working diligently toward the goal of eliminating our 16 trillion dollar debt within ten years. He supports the work of those who wish to attain a strong defensive military, as opposed to the veritable “Department of War” we currently have.

Mr. Willis is fond of saying, “If we are truly the party of liberty, equality, and favoritism for none, then let’s start acting like it.”

Mark Willis and his wife, Violet, live with their two children on an Icelandic sheep farm in Down East Maine.

For those who may have cause for concern, think about this:

What is the worst case scenario?

Answer: We end up with Reince Priebus as Chair again. That would be the same Reince Priebus who presided over one of the worst political bloodbaths ever in the 2012 elections. The same Reince Priebus who was at the helm when the RNC instituted its massive powergrab and neutering of the grassroots in history with Rule 12, Rule 16, and Rule 40.

Well, guess what? That was the best case scenario a week ago!

And what is the best case scenario now? That a principled man from Maine becomes the Chair of the RNC.

What is the practical outcome? The man who chaired the RNC, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, will not run unopposed. The man who read the teleprompter instead of listening to the vote, the man who ruled that “the ayes have it” when they clearly did not, will at least have to look at the consequences of his unethical actions at the national convention.

Maine State Committeeman Mark Willis has agreed to run for RNC Chair against the incumbent Reince Priebus. Priebus presided over the GOP bloodbath we know as the 2012 election. Reince Priebus was the Chair who presided over the clearly unethical powergrab at the national convention in Tampa. Reince Priebus refused to do the honorable thing and step down.

Reince Priebus has been an embarrassment to the Republican Party and a hindrance to the American people. Now, Mark Willis answers the call of millions for a change in RNC leadership. Is this the GOP’s last chance at change before the party stops being relevant?

The Preamble to the Rules of the Republican Party, as voted in by duly elected members of the appropriate committee of delegates from all states in the Union reads:

“Be it resolved, that the Republican Party is the party of the Open door. Ours is the party of liberty, the party of equality, of opportunity for all, and favoritism for none. It is the intent and purpose of these rules to encourage and allow the broadest possible participation of all voters in Republican Party activities at all levels and to assure that the Republican Party is open and accessible to all Americans.”

As active members of the Republican party we demand integrity and sinwcere unity in all Republican Party affairs. At the 2012 convention, the Republican National Committee effectively silenced the delegates, and by extension, all Republicans, during the vote to accept the RNC Rules Committee Report. Specifically, the actions at that assembly were in direct violation of RNC Rules and our Preamble.

The RNC’s attempt to manufacture unity and respect has resulted in further division and dissension within the Party, sacrificing our integrity, and putting that sacrifice on display to all the world to see. These actions have disenfranchised all Republicans who gave and continue to give of their time, money, and allegiance to our Party. It is not just immoral, but monumentally arrogant to expect rank and file Republicans to work precincts and maintain unquestioning loyalty to the party just to have the rules manipulated at the end of a four-year effort.

We affirm that the Constitution of the United States, the Republican Party Platform, and the Preamble of the Republican National Committee Rules define the purpose, structure, and function of America and the Republican Party. The Republican Party belongs to all of us, and We The People declare that the rules must be followed.

The duty to ensure integrity within our party falls to every one of our members, and it is with great hope that we ask that that fact and the stated goals and mission of our Party be kept in mind. And it is in that spirit that we demand that the leadership of the RNC adhere to, promote, and act in accordance with the principles set out in the Preamble and other foundational documents.

In the words of Morton Blackwell:

“The changes he [Ginsberg] proposed shared a common theme: to concentrate and centralize more power at the top of the party and to shut off opportunities for power in the party to flow from the bottom up.

None of Mr. Ginsberg’s power grabs would in any way help us elect Mitt Romney and defeat President Barack Obama. . . . But his efforts predictably enraged conservative Republicans who treasure the protections long incorporated in our national party rules. The record will show that during the Conventions Rules Committee meeting, as a member of that committee from Virginia, I repeatedly warned Mr. Ginsberg that his power grabs would hurt the Romney campaign by outraging grassroots conservative and libertarian activists whom we want to support our candidates this year.”
